The Heart of Service

The mission of the church, and City Church in particular, is dependent upon a heart of service. This summer we have been working through the book of Philippians, where Paul writes, “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves” (Phil. 2:3). Our prayer is that in honoring and serving others, City Church is a beacon of hope and beauty for a time often defined by division and discord.

A simple way to participate in the communal life of service at City Church is to volunteer on one of our Sunday Morning Ministry Teams. To transform the House of Blues into a house of worship, we need about 25-30 volunteers per week. While the commitment is only once-monthly, being part of a Sunday team is absolutely essential to carrying out the vision and mission of City Church. We appreciate your service and support as we gear up for another exciting ministry year designed to, as ever, bring beauty into broken places.

The heart of service can feel daunting, but there can be joy in the work because of the confidence we have found in the love of Jesus. Not long after Paul professes the power of counting others more significant than ourselves, he discloses the source of his endurance: “I press on to make [the resurrection] my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own” (Phil. 3:12). We have been made one with our Savior, and that enduring gift affords us the energy to “press on,” to love others deeply, to serve others truly, and to carry out the commission that was entrusted to us.

Thank you for all that you already do to make City Church a place of deep love and true service. We hope you will consider joining our Sunday Ministry Teams. To learn more about these teams, click here. And to sign-up to serve, please CLICK HERE.
